In search of FOs

So last year I finished a total of 33 knitted things. That works out to an average of 2.75 per month. It is now almost the end of January (how did that happen, exactly? Where did it go?) and I have the grand total of 0 FOs to date. Yup. Zero. None. Nada.
I have been [...]

Oh the weather outside is frightful

Here in Ottawa we're in the middle of our third big winter storm so far this winter fall. It's a perfect day to stay inside, make some soup (Leek and Potato; Lentil), do some laundry, tidy up a bit (no major cleaning, mind you, just organizing) knit and blog.
I've spent most of the past week [...]

Knitting Update

While I was in Halifax, I did have a lot of knitting time. And a lot of knitting time translates into new finished objects, and progress on WIPs.
First up, the Anemoi Mittens. I actually finished these before I left for Halifax, but didn't have a chance to take some photos. I absolutely love these mittens. [...]

Anemoi Mittens – One down, one to go

Well, it's still pretty grey outside, but brighter than this morning, so I was able to get a couple of reasonably decent photos. I'll take more once I have both mittens finished and blocked.

Aren't they gorgeous?

Sidetracked by mitten season

Work on the Lacy Waves Top is progressing nicely. I have the body (from the waist up) finished, and the lacy bit sewn in. It fits great! I had planned to do lacy sleeves, like the pattern calls for. I swatched the lacy pattern for the sleeves, blocked the swatch and used the before-blocking and [...]

Socks, and a bit of crochet

Thanks for all of your comments on the Ribby Shell. I will likely knit this pattern again, using a more suitable yarn. This was the first time I had ever knit with bamboo. I absolutely love the feel of it, but not the behaviour. Oh well, knit and learn!
Meanwhile, I do have a couple of [...]

Close, but not quite

Back in January, I made a New Year's resolution (which I rarely do) that, this year, I was going to make a sweater that fit and that is flattering. The problem has never been with my technical knitting capabilities, but more with knowing what adjustments to make so that it fits my body, and not [...]

Mistake? What mistake?

The errant purl stitches are now knit stitches. I dropped down the stitches, on at a time, and using my trusty crochet hook, brought them back up correctly. (I love watching the look on new knitters' faces when you show them this for the first time, especially on their knitting. The wide eyes that appear [...]

Counting is easy, right?

I'm good at math. I'm comfortable with numbers. When I was in high school, math was always my best subject. My first foray into higher education was in engineering (it didn't stick, but not because of the math). I took calculus and linear algebra. My second stab at university (which did stick) was in finance. [...]

Return of the socks

I just realized that, until this week, I hadn't finished a pair of socks since January. 7 sockless months – how could that be? Prior to that, I almost always had a pair of socks on the needles. They were my carry everywhere projects. I think there were a couple of factors at play. One [...]
