Barbie Doll Nostalgia

Yesterday, I went to the Fabric Flea Market at the Glebe Community Centre. This is an annual event, bustling with vendors and shoppers alike. I met up with Nancy there, and also ran into Laura (who was selling some of her sewing stash), Tara (home for a bit from Sudan), Katrina and Daisy.

Although it was primarily fabric, there were lots of other goodies, and I managed to find a few small things to buy. I picked up 3 balls of Dalegarn Stork in Bark for $3

Stork

a felting needle and a small amount of roving from Wendo van Essen

and some cute, colourful happy face buttons (I'm a sucker for a smiley face).

Buttons

I also had a great time browsing through old pattern books – there were lots of those for sale. At one point, I was looking through a stack, along with Nancy, and I said to her "If I happen to find 'Just for Dolls', I'm going to buy it" As I mentioned in my very first blog post, the first pattern I ever recall making was the Barbie Doll wardrobe from that book.

Seconds after making this declaration, there it was….

Just for Dolls - Front

So of course, I had to buy it. Here's the back, showing the Barbie clothes

I also found Patons 115 – Bazaar Novelties and Gifts, which I also recall having at some point.

Bazaar Novelties

So if you're ever in need of a pattern for a Poodle tissue cover, soap cover or bottle cover, or 8 different tea cozies, you know where to find me.

I have that Bazaar pattern book. I only got it to make teacosy — which is still not done and would be useful with the cold weather returning. Might want to borrow your doll book though–I started sewing doll clothes when I was eight and it was so much fun.

you got some great finds at the glebe.

I am looking for vintage barbie patterns. Would you be interested in selling your ‘just for dolls’ book? It is #139 you have posted on your website. If so, what would you charge?

I would love to have a copy of the Bee-hive Barbie book. Is it for sale? Do you know of anyone who would like to sell one?
