Mistake? What mistake?

The errant purl stitches are now knit stitches. I dropped down the stitches, on at a time, and using my trusty crochet hook, brought them back up correctly. (I love watching the look on new knitters' faces when you show them this for the first time, especially on their knitting. The wide eyes that appear when you drop a stitch, on purpose, and then the look of relief when you make it all better. Priceless.)

When I got to the bottom, I discovered that the problem wasn't due to my inability to count, but more to my inability to knit in pattern.

On or about row 3, at point where you switch from k2, p2 to k3, p1, I was apparently in such a k2, p2 rhythm, that I kept going, and ended up with an extra k2, p2. On the next row I knit the knits and purled the purls, blind to the error of my ways, until the underarms when it all became glaringly obvious.

But nothing a crochet hook wouldn't fix. The stitches are a bit wonky, but that should even out in the blocking. And even if it's a bit funny, it will still be better than the alternatives – ripping the whole thing out, or leaving it as it was and having more ribbing on one side than the other.

In addition to this project, and the socks I have on the go, I am  back to working on Mystery Stole 3. I had abandoned it for a while, because of some uncertainty. The pattern gives options for lengthening or shortening the stole. I had decided to shorten it. But when I got a bit further (to the wing part, if you've seen the design elsewhere), I suspected it might be too short. But I wasn't sure, so I did nothing. Yesterday I had a brain-picking session with Nancy, so I brought it along to get her opinion (knitting friends are worth their weight in gold, I tell you). We decided that it would be too short, so I ripped back a few rows (I had a lifeline in, so it was painless), and then yesterday evening I continued knitting on the section that I had skipped. It is lovely, so it's nice to be working on it again.

And it's also nice to be blogging on a Tuesday morning, when others are at work! I'm on vacation for the next two weeks. And only two more sleeps until I leave for Paris with my mother. I'm really looking forward to the trip – it's the first time the two of us have travelled anywhere together. It will be fun, I'm sure :-)

  1. I remember the first time I was shown the repair and it was like I descovered the ark of the covenent or the fountain of youth. Congrats on the two weeks of vacation. Treasure the time with your Mom, Wish I had been able to travel with my Mom. Take time durring the trip to just pause and enjoy the time together and not be so concerned with itenerary and details. Go for a walk in the morning and listen to the city wake up together. Wishing you a magnificient time together. Envious in California
